2013 Florida Derby contest at big hit on CBS Sports

Probably one of the best Florida Derby races as the winner went on to take the 2013 Kentucky Derby. But wait…there was some drama. Jockey John Velasquez as seen in the commercial above road Orb to the victory in the Florida Derby decided not to ride Orb in the Kentucky Derby. Ever the opportunist jockey Joel Rosario also seen in the commercial above took the mount and took the roses!

This is what made this social media promotion so cool. The fans are root for their favorite jockeys as much as they root for their favorite horses. You can imagine the reactions on the Gulfstream Facebook page after the race. Johnny V was riding high and fans let him know it. But in a few weeks everything would change. Just like in marketing there’s no such thing as a sure thing!
